I spotted a Marketing placement with Make Events on Linked In, I was familiar with the company from previously performing at one of their events so I knew it was a fantastic opportunity and applied straight away!

I was delighted when I was offered a 6 week full time marketing position, it was the first big step in a new career direction for me (previously a performer/new business graduate) I was a little nervous but very excited!

5 things I’ve learnt

1.Social Media Marketing
I explored and developed all of Make Events social media channels. I tested out posting at different times of the day on different channels and compared the results. I found moving pictures and inspirational quotes most popular if posted between 7-7.30am on Facebook & Twitter, after my first few weeks I started to see some results such as on Instagram @MakeEventsltd managed to reach over 1k followers after consistent daily posts between 1-3pm.

2.New software & current marketing trends
I use a number of apps for media editing, gif creators and slideshows, I found most apps really high quality and its then really easy to distribute and manage. I began using and learning about different software program’s such as the company website and Zoho which were both a little tricky at first, however after a few of my technical faults I was creating E-blasts and posting blogs.

I also learnt about high resolution images with Martin and he spent some time with me to talk about the difference between good screen and printing files. Something I had struggled with in the past but now things were allot clearer – literally!

3. Attention to detail
Whilst working with Make Events I learnt about ATD and how that is key to client satisfaction. They take great care in their work and planning, they look into every little detail to ensure they produce the best quality service. It’s more than just a job as they specifically tailor each event to meet the needs of the individual clients.

4.Life of an event planner
I had a taste of the full time event planning office and there are some seriously lovely perks, tuns of free goodies, treats, luxury experiences and endless event invites. Although it all definitely comes with an intense work load, early mornings and late nights, a full inbox and brain! when your’e to do list naturally grows faster than your done list, you need a hard work ethic for this fast paced environment but its very rewarding and exciting.

5. Good Leadership
Managing a business, a team, yourself, a relationship… (I still haven’t learnt exactly how) It’s was amazing to see how Holly does it! she’s efficient, effective and decisive. As a boss she is authoritative and disciplined but extremely kind, positive and caring. She leads an active and healthy lifestyle, working incredibly hard in the gym and the office. I think she has a great balance and is a great leader.

Finishing my placement I have been offered the chance to continue to work with Make Events, this feels an incredible achievement for me.
