The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) consists of eleven indirectly elected members, each a directly elected councillor from one of the ten metropolitan boroughs that comprise Greater Manchester together with the Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Combined Authority approached Make Events to pivot their live event into a four-day virtual experience.
This was their annual Green Summit where they invite communities, businesses and organisations who are working towards the carbon neutrality target to take part and share their progress.
The aim of the conference was to keep their audience energised, motivated and accountable to take the next steps in creating a carbon neutral city by 2038 – and address the urgent actions we all need to take in the next few years to help achieve this as part of the 5 Year Environment Plan.
After a competitive pitch process, Make Events suggested communicating their message via a four-day live broadcast on a microsite with on-demand downloadable content; including podcasts, blogs and video.
Make Events created the bespoke microsite to their brand guidelines with the live stream embedded and delegate registration included. The website also housed the agenda, speaker bios, live chat and all of the on-demand downloadable content.
The conference was broadcast live from The Studio (located in Manchester, UK) to their 1500+ delegates across the world. We took control of the production of the show (which on some days had multiple streams), managed over 100 pieces of pre-recorded content and provided a video production service for extra pieces that needed to be created.
Organisations tuned in from across the globe. Anyone with an environmental obligation looking to Manchester to see what the city’s mission is against Climate Change had access to the broadcast. This included; councils, transport, energy, waste and recycling companies worldwide.
We were committed to ensuring the audience felt as involved as they would be at their live event. They were thought about every step of the way with Q+A’s, polls and live chat boxes to discuss the content and social media prompts going out daily.
We also managed the speakers who were brought in from across the globe via video call and all of the content design.

Following the sessions, delegates could head back onto the website to re-watch the whole event and attend any of the sessions they didn’t watch on the day.
Over 1500 delegates signed up to the event to watch live. Since then, 2,300 have watched the content back via the microsite.
