Robin Sharma introduced The 5am Club concept over twenty years ago, based on a revolutionary morning routine that helped his clients maximise their productivity.

Last night our CEO, Holly Moore, discussed how she’s made the most of the early mornings throughout lockdown in her own 5am club with Lily Shippen, MD of Lily Shippen Recruitment and Juliet Tripp, Senior Events Manager at Chemical Watch. Hosted by Léon Milns, We are Adam.

Here are our takeaways from CEO, Holly Moore:

“We started the 5am club at the start of lockdown to find control in a world that was completely out of control. There is three of us in the group and having someone to check up on you at that time in the morning really encourages you to get up!

The accountability of having a group doing it together makes it much easier, I don’t think we would be as good at getting up that early if there wasn’t anyone to check up on you.

This is not another CEO preaching the ‘hustle’, there is no set way to organise your time, you do what you want that makes you feel fulfilled. Some things we do when we get up are –

  • Blogging
  • Listening to a podcast
  • Working out
  • Starting a project
  • Catch up on your emails at a time when nobody is going to reply straight away.
  • Catch up on TV!
  • Sitting with a coffee and listening to the silence before the day begins.
  • Goal setting.

There is a lot of negative perceptions around waking up at 5am. We only do this Monday to Friday and it’s about establishing a routine that gives you this time. Find out when you work best!

You need to ask yourself ‘why am I doing this?’ if you’re not doing it for yourself, it won’t work. Try and take one or two hours for yourself at another time of the day instead!

It may have been easy over lockdown but once social plans start to drip back in, it may change but we are trying to stick to it as much as we can, around our other priorities.

If all fails and you feel knackered by 3pm… have a nappuccino! *drinking a coffee pre-nap and waking up fresh as a daisy!*
