Dreams Come True is Softcat’s corporate charity and each year, they hold a charity ball to raise money for children with serious or life-limiting illnesses. In 2016, they decided to theme the event around James Bond and asked Make Events to find the perfect venue for 360 guests. Our job was to bring the theme to life and raise as much money as possible for the charity.
With years of experience of planning a charity event, we decided to ‘do’ Bond like he’d never been done before. Using the impressive Victoria Warehouse in Manchester as a blank canvas, we designed the lighting, stage set and guest experience at every step of the evening.
Guests were greeted at the entrance by a living red carpet and entered a dramatic space complete with 20’ high golden guns and a real Aston Martin. Our in-house prop designer created giant martini cocktail table centres whilst entertainment included a flashmob breakdance act who performed to a Bond theme tune medley. The Bond theme continued with branded seating plans, menus and visual presentations on giant screens, all designed by Make Events.
When it came to the serious business of raising money, we created an iPad auction facility so guests could enter a silent auction to win one of many glittering prizes. We could see which tables had the least activity and encouraged them accordingly. Visual presentations included footage of Softcat’s staff who were fundraising, and the sharing of real life success stories from past fundraising.
The charity event raised an undisclosed and very significant figure for Dreams Come True, contributing to a total of £1m raised over four years.
“Make Events were truly fabulous when organising our charity ball last year. Creative and always on hand to manage any last-minute changes of plan from us. Efficient is an understatement. They are a super team with top customer service from the top – so nice to have someone with the same company motto!”
